Academy Overruns BoddenTown; Scholars and Naya Draw

Academy overwhelmed Bodden Town FC 8-2 onSaturday at the George Hick's field.

Academy seemed to take longer than normal for its prolific strikersto draw blood. In fact, it was defender Trevor Gibbs' goal thatseemed to change the outcome of the game. Gibbs worked his wayup the line and fired an unstoppable bullet into the net.

With the score at one-nil, Bodden Town did well just to hold Academyin check for awhile longer, but the law of averages finally tookits toll and this time it was Andre Gooding who launched a bombgoalward from outside the 18-yard box. The explosive shot hitthe inside of the crossbar and bounced into the back of the net.

To Bodden Town's credit, they managed to fend Academy off keepingthe scoreline at 2-love until the start of the second half. Actually,the Townie's even caught a lucky a break when they received apenalty. Aaron Berry converted from the spot, rifling a shot thatsent Academy's keeper to the right and with the ball going tothe left, taking the score to 2-1 in the 50th minute.

The reality of losing loomed over the undefeated Academy and thistime it was Thomas Bush who placed the ball into the back of thenet. The goal tally stood at 3-1 in the 56th minute.

However, the scrappy Townie's did not give up; in fact their goalfrom the penalty seemed to have imbued the team with confidenceand this time it was Lorenzo Green that zoomed through traffic,beat the keeper and placed the ball into the back of the net.The scoreline was now 3-2 in the 60th minute.

Alarmed at just how close the opposition was getting Academy'sstrikers awoke, and rained three goals into the back in quicksuccession into the opponent net. Justin Rankin was credited withtwo and Bush one. This took the tally to 6-2 before the 72nd minute.

Rankin was not to be denied a hat trick. He scored in the 80thminute when Joseph Welcome collected a loose ball inside the 18-yardbox. Welcome tapped the ball to Rankin, who touched the ball intothe back of the net.

The score stood at 7-2. Nevertheless, Academy's scoring machinehad a final goal to make and this time it was Welcome, who acedthe shot that swelled the net.

In other U-14 action the Scholar vs. Naya game ended in a nil-alldraw.
