Hard-working Grads Find NichesWithin Monetary Authority

Recent Cayman Islands Monetary Authority(CIMA) recruits, Ms. Rhona Sambula and Ms. Monique Minzett, arediscovering that even in the high-powered world of finance, itis possible for newcomers to quickly find a niche suited to theirparticular goals and talents.

Both ladies are graduates of the University of South Florida'sundergraduate school of business, where they majored in finance.Rhona chose to join CIMA's investment services division to explorethe fast-growing mutual funds industry.

Meanwhile banking analyst, Monique, was drawn to the opportunityher new job offered in gaining insight into the Islands' financialservices sector.

Working as an investment analyst, Rhonasays, has emphasised for her the importance of effective regulationto the continued success of the financial sector. Her duties includethe registration of companies as mutual funds and mutual fundsadministrators, while ensuring that they comply with relevantlaws.
While Rhona says she enjoys the in-service she has received, shealso plans to eventually pursue a Master's Degree in finance,with continued specialisation in investment services.

She says other young people considering a finance degree shouldonly be encouraged by the fact that the financial industry isgrowing and will likely continue to expand. "It is a flexiblemajor with specialisations in such fields as investments, accounting,management, real estate and banking. The result is that a financedegree is not limiting but enables them to work in the sectorof the industry that they find interesting, " Rhona said.

Fellow CIMA newcomer, Ms. Monique Minzett agrees. Monique choseto join the authority because of a longstanding interest in banking.These days, she monitors the activities of banks as well as trustcompanies, and analyses their annual returns and financial statements.She says she looks forward to gaining more exposure in the areaof on-site analysis, and the opportunity to visit local financialinstitutions for in-depth analysis.

Monique eventually intends to pursue a Master's of Business AdministrationDegree. Meanwhile, she says, she intends to capitalise on everyprofessional opportunity that comes her way, in her continuedwork at CIMA.
