Tony Keely earns a hat trickin Compass Run

John Tweedie makes tracks in the Compass Fun Run (right),and Hakeem Bush and Lin Bodden compete in the Compass Run withShakina Bush in the background (left).
Tony Keely commanded the Compass Run serieswinning all three races, his age group race and improving hisoverall time for the entire series.
It was a cool crisp Saturday morning with 56 runners convergingfor the series finale. As the starter's pistol sounded, Keelyimmediately broke away from the pack. Mark Hydes and Dave Plumsteadchased, at times trading positions in the two-mile course thatstarted by the John Gray High School. The course continued turningright on to South Sound and then right on Denham Thompson Wayto the finish line.
Keely bested his own time last week, shaving off 18 seconds, clockingin at 10:17. Mark Hydes and Dave Plumstead was no match for thewiry Irishman, recording times of 10:52 and 11:02 respectively.
Tara Holland, who was 12th overall in the final round of the series, placed first in the women's division, coming in at 12:47, nearlytwo minutes ahead of Maria Leonce (14:31) and Amy McFarlene (14:51).
The junior division was definitely exciting too, as brothers,John and James Tweedie outdistanced seasoned veterans in somecases, recording times of 16:06 and 16:59. Additionally, therewas a second case of sibling rivalry -- this time between Hakeemand Shakina Bush, who made a mad dash for the finish line. Itwas Shakina, the older of the two, who won that round of the familybattle.
The overall results for top finisher had Keely winning the men'swith Plumstead and Hydes in second and third place respectivey. However, the women's division was not as clear, as the previouswinners Tara Holland and Sandy Hew raced in only two of the threeevents. This led to Kim Welcome garnering the top spot overallwith McFarlene and Leonce in second and third respectfully.
Chris Saunders, secretary to the Cayman Islands Amateur AthleticAssociation, had this to say about the series, "Overall weare pleased with the results. As the results show, consistencyis the key and winning one individual race was not everything. This was positive message to send.
"The series was well organized and we wish to thank our sponsorsCayman Free Press and Cayman Imports. Also I would like to thankthe many volunteers, Elizabeth Ibeh and Bernie Bush for all theirhelp," he added.
The CIAAA's next race will be the Cable & Wireless Half Marathonand 5K, scheduled for 24th March.
