Art @ Governor's House this past Saturdaywas an immense success according to Leslie Bigelman, directorof the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands.

The lawns of Governor's House was temporarily transformed intoan outdoor art festival with 100 local and international artistdisplaying various art forms, which were viewed by very appreciativecrowd of 1,800.

The potpourri of art forms was as varied as oils, water, charcoal,and art brushing canvasses, and included pottery, glass painting,natural works, thatching, and of course, the mural produced byPhi Yeh, Wray Banker and a group of a 100 young painters.

The mural entitled 'Building a World of Readers' was one of thehighlights of the event, and the catboat rides were also extremelypopular amongst the visitors.
"We were delighted with the turnout of 1,800 people overthe three hour period," stated Mrs. Suzanne Smith, wife ofHis Excellency, the Governor, Peter Smith.

"We would like to thank the National Gallery, the VisualArts Society, Cayman Islands Libraries, the National Museum andthe Catboat Club who worked closely together, which contributedto the success of the event," she added.

Ms. Bigelman also commented on the days success. "Peoplewere leaving with smiles on their faces. The people whoattendedwere well stimulated. Art @ Governors House went off better thanI ever dreamt.

"The thing that pleased us most was the mixture of peoplethat came. The day was about sharing and displaying artist work.More than 100 artists showed their pieces and more than 45 ofthose were demonstrating their work. The number of traditionalartists that participated was great and to mix that with the comtemporaryartists was wonderful," she explained.

"We at the National Galley would like to thank the Governor,Mr. Peter and his wife Mrs. Smith. They were the key ingredientto making all this a great success. They were actively involvedin the event, and they never left," she ended.
