St. Ignatius tops infootball ~ Truth for Youth take netball
Theinside of the Truman Bodden Sports Complex never looked so brightand vibrant as it did last Saturday when it was filled with inter-primarychildren competing in the netball and football rally. A rainbowof colours greeted parents, fans, onlookers, and the Sports Minister,Hon Edna Moyle, as 25 teams from both disciplines representedthe islands' schools.
And for organisers, the day was splendid as nearly 80 matcheswere played between the football field and the netball courts.The competition was stiff, with most football games ending inpenalty shoot-outs. The netball matches were equally competitivewith teams vying for the top spot.
"The day was very rewarding and a tremendous success,"said Ronnie Roach, the inter-primary school coordinator. "Iwould like to thank the many volunteers, the referees, umpires,scorekeepers and the parents who really helped to ensure the daywas a success."
He added: "It was so nice to see so many children in onearea and they look forward the rally as it is a nice way for theleague to climax."
St. Ignatius School won the football rally, which toppled leaguerivals George Town early, forcing them to finish third overallwith Red Bay collecting the second place trophy and Savannah wasfourth overall.
Truth For Youth pulled off another upset, defeating league winnersSt. Ignatius/West Bay in netball. The Truth For Youth team, infact, went undefeated for the entire day, outdoing St. Ignatius4-2 in the finals. The other top finishers in the netball rallywere Cayman Prep in third and Savannah Primary fourth.
However, Savannah's Christina Wright led the way in the Netballshoot-out with Janelle Davis in second for St. Ignatius. AbbyHaylock, was third, Amy Smith for Cayman Prep, fourth and MelissaScott for Cayman Brac was fifth.
