The Grand Harbour Development is once againat the forefront of the Cayman construction industry where thesite developers, Caribbeus Architectural Development, have recentlycontracted Cayman Retaining Wall Systems licensees for the constructionof a Keystone Retaining Wall System.

While from the main road, the Grand Harbour Shopping Centre looksfully constructed, behind the scenes, extensive development continuesat a rapid pace.

The new Keystone Retaining Wall surroundsthe entire marina and is close to the canal front lots at SouthReach, which are currently on the market. It is a major coup forGrand Harbour as the manufacturing of the blocks is a licensedprocess from Keystone in Minneapolis, one of the largest licensorsof retaining wall systems in America.

Grand Harbour is the first development inGrand Cayman to boast this superior quality and structurally-soundengineered wall system, which has proved very popular in the U.S.

The Flowers Group has been appointed theofficial manufacturer of the blocks and according to Mr. FrankFlowers, managing director of the company: "The decisionto use Keystone blocks in the Grand Harbour development was unequivocal.Having high aesthetic appeal, very durable structural strengthand being so versatile, the Keystone wall will add an exclusivefeature to Grand Harbour."

The 5ft high retaining wall functions asa gravity wall system, to provide the weight and stability toresist earth pressures of the surrounding land fill. It has aconcrete foundation of 1 feet below sea level for added strength, although from an engineering point of view, this was not required.

Mr. Mike Bell, owner of Caribbeus ArchitecturalDevelopment, who is developing the Grand Harbour site, statesthat the Keystone Retaining Wall System is "ideal when itcomes to water applications, such as the canal and marina at GrandHarbour, due to it's physical strength and durability and is aproven performer in itís field."

He enthused: "The beauty of the Keystonewall lies in its classic look and graceful curves. It is an ideal,natural-looking stone face to use here in Grand Harbour. The wallhas been built, having smooth contours and curves, giving boththe marina and canal a natural meandering feel and look, thatwill greatly enhance and complement the canal front lots at SouthReach and the surrounding environment."

"Combine this with its constructionstability, durability and strength to resist earth pressures,"Mr. Bell said, "and there is no doubt that this highly attractivefeature will prove very popular with the residents and visitorshere at Grand Harbour."
