Letter to the Editor

Appalled at the slander

Dear Sir,

I was appalled after reading the so-calledpolitical/satirical cartoon in last week's edition of the otherlocal newspaper portraying McKeeva Bush with the First CaymanBank shadow slinking directly behind him.

One must immediately wonder the intent of the paper in publishingsuch a piece. Are they that short of newsworthy editorial contentthat they need to fill space with such garbage?

I understand the importance and necessity of providing all pointsof view, not necessarily just the popular ones, but to seeminglyattack Mr Bush's reputation and integrity, especially as he isstill getting comfortable in his new duties with our governmentis irresponsible of the newspaper.

We talk about supporting our new government while a local newsmedium that has been around for years, because of a seeming slownews day, takes opportunity to take a shot.

I wish I could encourage Caymanians to stop purchasing the newspaperuntil these personal attacks on our present politicians are stopped. It seems that only this way will the newspaper wake up and publishnews-worthy content and present it with the facts available toinform and not to persuade, which I believe is the purpose ofnewsworthy articles.

Mrs Isabelle Giger
