Caymanian students excel inregional competition

Students of the Cayman Islands who againtook part in the 2000 Florida Caribbean Cruise Competition Association(FCCA)'s Children's Foundation Annual Poster and Essay Contesthave been awarded valuable prizes.
The theme for the Essay contest was 'CruisePassengers Return as Land-Based Vacationers - What is My CountryDoing, and Should Do, to Encourage Cruise Passengers to Returnto my Destination for Future Visits'?
This year's contest attracted entries from14 nations. Shari Walton, formerly of Savannah Primary but nowin middle school at George Hicks, won US$200.00 for reaching thefinal round in the Junior Division. The winning entries came fromthe Bahamas in the junior division and Belize in the senior division.
The 2000 poster competition had as its theme,'Reuse, Recycle....Renew the Caribbean' and attracted entriesfrom 11 nations.
In the junior division, Samantha Widmerplaced second and was awarded US$1500.00. Additionally her school,Cayman Prep and High School, will also be provided with art supplies,which will be forwarded by the FCCA shortly. Also in the JuniorDivision, Karen Ford, formerly of Faulkner Academy but now attendingSt. Ignatius', reached the final round and will be awarded US$200.
In the Senior Division Angelica Borden ofFaulkner Academy (now at George Hicks), and Sarah Cuff of CaymanPrep and High School, will each be awarded US$200.00 for reachingthe final round.
Minister for Tourism, the Hon. McKeeva Bushhad this to say: "I am extremely proud to be able to presentthe Caymanian students with their awards. We at the Ministry andDepartment of Tourism will continue to look for ways that we caninclude our young people in the tourism industry and enhance theirappreciation of the importance of this industry to the CaymanIslands."
The winning entries for the Poster Competitioncame from Turks & Caicos Islands in the junior division andU.S.V.I. in the senior division.
