As part of their trainingfor the London Marathon, Derek Haines and Diana Miller took partin the Cable & Wireless Cancer Half Marathon this past Sunday.

"Whilst I broke the three-hour barriersome 15 years ago, I believe that if I come in under four hoursI will be happy. That is more realistic," stated Mr. Haines.

"It is a fantastic event and experience.Runners of all capabilities take part and it seems like all ofLondon turns out to cheer you on. With bands and street entertainment, the atmosphere is terrific and we are all really looking forwardto the trip. Presently, we are training hard and running about35 miles a week. With only 12 weeks to go we will have to raisethis to around the 50-mile mark," he added.

The three are seeking sponsorship, all ofwhich, through the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, will be splitbetween the Pines and Junior Rugby. Rotarian Sgt. at Arms RobJamieson will be managing the sponsorship drive.

"Rotary is pleased to be associatedwith this and hopes to raise a good sum of money for these twoworthy causes. The runners will pay all of their own expenses, and there are no overheads, so every dollar collected will goto the charities mention," said Mr. Jamieson.
