ApplicantsSought for Chevening Scholarships

Caymanians interested in postgraduate studyin Britain have until 1 February, to apply to the prestigiousChevening scholarship scheme.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office programmeoffers funding to outstanding graduates for study at any Britishuniversity. Forms are available from the Governor's Staff Officer,at the Government Administration Building, tel. 244-2434 or theEducation Council Secretary, at the Education Department, tel.945-1199, and must be returned to those organisations prior tothe deadline.

As the programme is intended for futureleaders and decision-makers, successful applicants must demonstratethis level of potential. A spokesman says there is usually strongcompetition for the limited number of scholarships that are offeredeach year.

Awards are normally for one-year masters'programmes but may also be considered for courses of more thanthree months duration.

Over the past nine years, some 14 Caymanianshave received Chevening Scholarships for postgraduate study inBritain. The programme is administered locally by the Governor'sOffice and the Education Council.
