FBCS LibraryGets Boost from Texaco

An ambitious programme to increase the numberof books and computerize the library at First Baptist ChristianSchool (FBCS) received a recent boost with the donation of a computerby Texaco Caribbean Inc. (Cayman Islands).

The company's donation of a Pentium 450helped to support the school's 'Library Extravaganza 2001', afund-raising project that raised approximately $6,000 to purchasenew books. It also enabled the school's library to implement anautomated check-out system for students.

In presenting the computer to Bob Haskins,Principal of FBCS, General Manager for Texaco, Mr. James Tibbettscommended the school on efforts to improve its library resourcesby creative fundraising.

"Texaco is pleased to be part of thisworthwhile effort," he said. "We hope that our donationof a computer will help FBCS meet its goals, particularly of promotingreading through the school's Accelerated Reading programme."

FBCS' Accelerated Reading programme encouragesreading by giving students points for books they read. Pointsare redeemable by purchasing items at the school's store.
