Flirting withDisaster to Enjoy the View

Dear Sir,

At this point it is obvious that the PlanningDepartment does not recognize that their Boards, with the assistanceof the members of the House, have an important role to play inpreventing the continuance of the escalating costs of Home Insurancein the Cayman Islands.

We just had a disastrous amount of destructionand expense to businesses and homes built out on the Iron Shore.

And did anyone do anything to prevent thishappening again? (and again, and again)... Nope!! No Way! Thenewspaper reports that businesses are rebuilding... etc., etc.Is it any wonder the Insurance Companies have hiked our fees up50%, and made other rules to make it impossible for us to insureour homes? And to discourage businesses from re-building.

We all realize that living on an Island,we are subject to hurricane destruction the same as Florida andother coastal areas. However, must we allow people who are 'Johnniecome latelies' to our Islands, to continue to taunt God and theRules of common sense by building where they are sure to get damagefrom Northwesters or any high seas?

Give us a break...please! Our ancestorsmay not have had a lot of book learning, but for sure they exhibiteda lot more common sense and forethought about such things. Flirtingwith disaster just to 'enjoy the view' has become costly to allof us because we are having to suffer because of the lack of controlon the building approvals along the iron shore and areas whereno buildings should be allowed.
