The new Speaker of the LegislativeAssembly, the Hon Julianna O'Connor-Connolly, JP, is this weekin London visiting the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Over a three-day schedule, she will meetvarious dignitaries including the Speaker of the House of Commons,the Rt. Hon Michael Martin, MP, and the Chairman of the Ways andMeans the Rt. Hon Sir Alan Haselhurst, MP.
It is not uncommon, and is recommendable,for new Speakers of Commonwealth Parliaments to visit Westminster.The Standing Orders of the Cayman Islands Legislative Assemblyare based upon the Westminster system and where there is no provisionin the Standing Orders on any matter, resort shall be had to theusage and practice of the Commons House of Parliament of GreatBritain and Northern Ireland.
Whilst in London the Speaker will also meetthe new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association,at the Headquarters Secretariat, the Hon Dennis Marshall.
