$270 Million in land sold in 2002
Land valued at almost $270 million changed hands in 2002, according to figures released by the Department of Lands and Survey.
Showing high activity, the total was 56 percent more than the previous year's $173 million.
Recorded transfers for 2002, including those for natural love and affection, stood at 1,842. This is 0.22 percent less than the 1,846 transfers of 2001.
Over all, during 2002, some 9,203 legal transactions were processed; a drop of almost 2.59 percent from the preceding 12 months' total of 9,448.
Stamp duty totals slowed, with nearly $12 million being collected, including $156,512 coming from Cayman Brac.
This amount reflected an overall decrease of 20 percent compared to the previous twelve months.
During 2002, the third and fourth quarters were the most outstanding, averaging $80 million.
The monthly breakdown of the final quarter's activity follows: 125 transfers valued at $56 million were made in October; 159 transfers for a total value of $30 million took place during November, while December's totals were 114 transfer and $12 million, respectively.
