World Class Underwater Photography in Cayman
Residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to see world-class underwater photography and videography during the International Underwater Film Festival to be held on Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18 at the Harquail Theater.
Featuring work of internationally renowned underwater photographers and videographers Bob Talbot, Jordan Klein, Sr. and Jordan Klein, Jr., Paul Tzimoulis and Geri Murphy as well as National Geographic Magazine Photographer Courtney Platt, the presentations promise to be fascinating and highly interesting.
The Film Festival includes a fascinating 15 minute piece of Bob Talbot's "Ocean Men", the intriguing story of two divers and their unique relationship to the sea.
Pipin Ferreras and Umberto Pelizzari - the ocean men - are unprecedented apnea sportsmen, penetrating the absolute silence and total solitude of the ocean without any sophisticated scuba diving equipment.
You will also see a rare 15 minute "behind the scenes" feature on the making of Ocean Men.
Jordan Klein, Sr. will show his great 16 minute film originally produced for the Boston Sea Rovers Film Festival.
The film includes "behind the scenes" footage from famous movies like "Thunderball" and "Never Say Never Again", famous actors like Lloyd Bridges, and several other interesting features and commercials.
Jordan Klein, Jr. will show his Discovery Channel video, which chronicles the USS Indianapolis "Indy", which delivered the bombs to Hiroshima in the last days of WWII and was then torpedoed by Japanese submarines.
The video captures the reenactment of the torpedo attack on the USS Indy and the remaining crew's struggle for survival.
Paul Tzimoulis and Geri Murphy will show "Majestic Mantas", which delves into the mysteries and serene beauty of these magnificent animals.
The photos were taken off the Micronesian island of Yap in the Western Pacific. Learn why mantas congregate at certain locations, how they are able to hover while remaining almost motionless and how they feel toward divers.
Paul Tzimoulis and Geri Murphy will also show their "Cayman Slides Through History" presentation.
A fun collage of topside and underwater photography from the Cayman Islands, originally produced for the 2002 DEMA Show.
Courtney Platt, National Geographic Magazine photographer and deep sub-pilot will show "Down the Cayman Wall", a selection of fascinating images taken on trimix and from the Atlantis Deep Submarine down to 1,200 feet.
This is a rare opportunity to see beyond the normal sport diving limits.
Anyone with an interest in seeing beautiful world-class underwater photography, extraordinary underwater film art and an opportunity to meet the photographers and videographers will greatly enjoy this rare event.
