Burlington Welsh Male Chorus to visit Cayman

Music fans in Cayman will be delighted in a few weeks time when the internationally renowned Burlington Welsh Male Chorus (BWMC) arrives in Cayman on the 2 February.

This is the first ever visit to the island by a Welsh Male Voice choir and it promises to be a memorable occasion.

The choir's visit to Cayman is the culmination of over 10 months work by a group of four people - Suzan Merren and Peter Bodden both members of Elmslie church, Dr Frank Smith of the BWMC and Sue Horrocks, Director of Cayman National Choir and Cayman National Orchestra.

During their stay, the Burlington choir will be performing and sharing their musical skills with musicians and school children from all over Cayman. They bring with them their accompanists (piano or organ) and a female soprano.

On Tuesday 4 February, their first visit is to Cayman Prep and High School, Walkers Road, where they will be participating in a schools workshop culminating in an evening concert starting at 6 p.m.

Friday 7 and 8 February will be evenings not to be missed by anyone who enjoys singing.

BWMC will perform in two concerts at the Harquail theatre. The first performance, on Friday, is a Sacred Concert to benefit Elmslie Memorial United Church at 7.30 p.m.

On Saturday 8 February, at 7.30 p.m., the BWMC will perform together with Cayman National Choir and Cayman National Orchestra for an evening of Musical Celebration.

Burlington Welsh Male Chorus is an offshoot of the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir and currently has over 40 members.

Their repertoire ranges from sacred music to show tunes, spiritual to pop songs. Amongst their recent recordings are 'American Trilogy', 'Das Morgenrot', 'The Drummer and the Cook' and 'Eli Jenkin's Prayer'.

They held their first rehearsal on Sept 7, 2001 at St. Luke's Church in Burlington, Ontario under the direction of Lyn Harry with 23 choristers. Their first concert was a sell out.
