Governor's Car Damaged

A forklift, operated by a worker at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman project, collided with the Governor's car, while he was inside. Suffering no injuries, Governor Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy walked back to the Governor's House whilst his car was examined. The accident occurred at approximately 2:00pm on Monday, West Bay Road, along Seven Mile Beach, in the area where the Ritz-Carlton project spans across the road. According to Sergeant Angelique Ebanks of the RCIP, the forklift operator was crossing the road when the Governor's car, travelling southbound on Seven Mile Beach road approached the area. "The security officers of National Security didn't communicate with each other regarding the traffic," said Ms. Ebanks, and consequently the Governor's car sustained damage to the right side of the vehicle and the front windscreen. The car was immedately removed from the scene. The Governor's driver and the operator of the forklift were not harmed. National Security employs security officers to maintain security at the Ritz-Carlton site 24 hours a day, and assist with traffic flow and equipment movement from the land side of the project to the sea side. RCIP officers gathered information from witnesses and those involved, which will be passed on to the Traffic Department for a complete investigation.
