New Director of Dept. of Vehicle Licensing

Mr. David W. Dixon, Director of Vehicle Licensing and Transport
The new Director of the Department of Vehicle Licensing and Transport is David W. Dixon from Cayman Brac.
A former Inspector of Police in the Commercial Crime Division, with 23 years of service in the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), Mr. Dixon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new post.
His RCIPS years included a six-year stint with the Traffic Department and a period assisting the Licensing Department with vehicle inspection and driving exam supervision.
As a police officer, Mr. Dixon also earned several service commendations, including the Certificate of Honour for "services beyond the call of duty". Other achievements included numerous management-level and special interest courses in all areas of police development, from advanced driving to money laundering.
In addition, he earned a law degree from the Cayman Islands Law School through the University of Liverpool.
Between 1990 and 1996, Mr. Dixon served as a sergeant in the Commercial Crime Branch (CCB) of the RCIPS.
There he investigated illegal offshore banking, complex and serious fraud up to and including the prosecution level of such offences. The companies he investigated were both local and international organisations.
Mr. Dixon said: "I feel that my legal qualifications complement my police experience and have given me the tools necessary for the post of Director of Licensing. My family is also very supportive and happy that I have been able to advance within the civil service."
He believes that change will be necessary in order to enhance the current system of licensing and his initial primary target concerns the recent traffic fatalities that involved several young drivers.
He emphasises that both the traffic system and the drivers' license exam need to be re-evaluated in order to remedy this dilemma.
Mr. Dixon further plans to develop a closer relationship with the Traffic Department and other related organisations within the Ministry of Tourism to develop strategies for improved road safety.
