Big bucks for Brazil

Ronaldinho

DOHA, (AFP) - Brazil, including Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos will play the stars of the Arab Gulf monarchies in a testimonial in Bahrain on April 1.

The South Americans will be paid 850,000 dollars for the one-off, said Sheikh Fawwaz bin Mohamed al-Khalifa, head of Bahrain's equivalent of a sports ministry.

Foreign referees will be used for the testimonial to mark the retirement of Bahraini striker Khamis Aid, Sheikh Fawwaz told a press conference.

Each of the six nations that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates -- will put forward three players for the game.

Rougerie ready to tackle Greening

PARIS, (AFP) - French international winger Aurelien Rougerie is looking forward to catching up with England hooker Phil Greening at Twickenham next month.

Rougerie needed three operations to his throat and thought he would never play again after Greening caught him with his elbow in a pre-season friendly between Montferrand and Wasps in August.

Six tries in 11 internationals had made the powerful 22-year-old one of France's brightest stars.

"But at one point, with all the complications, I thought that might be the end of it," he told l'Equipe sports daily Wednesday.
