The Harquail Theatre was the venue for theRoyal Cayman Islands Police graduating class of 2000. At 5:30p.m. on Friday 14th July, fifteen newly trained police Officersreceived their certificates at the passing out parade.

In attendance was His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Peter Smith,Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Thursfield, Deputy Commissioner,Mr. Buel Braggs, other distinguished guest and a host of otherrelatives and friends. The Governor, accompanied by the Commissionerof Police Mr. David Thursfield, conducted an inspection of theParade of graduating officers on the grounds of the Harquail Theatre,and those present were treated to an impressive display of precisiondrills by the contingent.

Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Carl Brown and the Police Chaplain,the Reverend Harry Spence, offered the prayer and dedication ofthe event There were a total of twelve new Caymanian officersin this graduating class of fifteen. The Commissioner presentedthe graduation certificates and the awards were bestowed by HisExcellency the Governor.

The Best Academic Student award went to P.C. Richard Barrow withsecond place going to P.C. Harold Forte. W. P.C. Sonji Myles,who was also chosen Best All Around Student, delivered the students'address. The Best Drill presentation was awarded to W.P.C. PrisillaBerry and Best Turn Out went to cadet Lance Barnett. P.C. LeightonDenby Groves was awarded for being the Best at Physical Educationand the Most Consistent Award was given to P.C. Ivan Wedderburn.

Other graduating students were W.P.C. Vienie Dilbert, W.P.C. JacquelineJackson, W.P.C. Jaclyn Ebanks, P.C. David Hydes, P.C. BessanioDilbert, P.C. Miguel McFarlane, P.C. Eckerd Mcfield, and P.C.Mathew Rice.

Police Commissioner, Mr. Thursfield gave the address to his graduatesinforming them that the task ahead would not be an easy one andthat the expectations of them would be high. He said, "youwill be dealing with problems that may numb the minds of many,but not you! You have been carefully chosen and specially trainedto provide the standards of service our community properly expectsfrom its police service."
In the Governor's address to the young graduates he commendedthe Police Training Department for their efforts, saying "Ialso take this opportunity to congratulate the Training Departmentfor it's continued efforts, not only to bring young Caymaniansinto the service, but also to ensure that their level of trainingis second to none." He continued: "This is one of thelargest groups of recruits for many years and, I am delightedto see, the largest number of Caymanian recruits ever."

Chief Inspector Denzie Carter, of the Police Training Department,extended a warm welcomed to all distinguished guests, family andfriends - thanking them for their support. She committed the officersto begin their police duties with the following words: "Iwish these 15 new members of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Serviceevery success as they put into practice those things which havebeen taught in the classroom whilst performing their duties asPolice Officers." She concluded by saying, "I am surethey will make us all proud."
