Hold CAL Directorsand Management Responsible

Dear Sir:

I have been watching and reading your CaymanNet News' coverage of the Cayman Airways' problems. I think thatyou are being quite frank, truthful and responsible.

In a recent edition of another local newspaper- not yours there are suggestions that our government shouldconsider the possibility of shutting down Cayman Airways.

As one of Cayman Airways' supporters, althoughthat is not an accepted fact by many people in the Governmentand even within the airline as such, I strongly suggest that thepowers-that-be count to ten a few times before making any suchdecision.

There is no doubt that while the subsidyis unreasonably and unacceptably high something like $1000.per Caymanian per year - that Cayman Airways can be operated profitably, efficiently and safely.

It is my understanding that the Directorsand Management of Cayman Airways enjoy a unique privilege evenmore so than healthy travel facilities. I understand that theyare indemnified and exempted from any fiduciary responsibilitywhich, I have no doubt, if correct, and if so, is removed wouldcontribute greatly towards the speedy normalisation and profitabilityof our National Airline. Naturally that should only be the startingpoint.

At this time, serious comparisons shouldbe made between the (1) inexpensive but costly-to operate B737-200aircraft and (2) the expensive but low operating cost of new aircraft. My thoughts are that one plus one is two. New airplanes shouldbe down the future. If it's broke, let's fix it.

I would add here that Cayman Airways hasa very dedicated and supportive staff. I congratulate them.

Richard E. Arch, MBE,JP.
