CUC's Summer Vocational
Training Commences

Fifteen students from the John Gray HighSchool are participating in a Vocational Training Programme thatcommenced Tuesday, 10th July at Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd.(CUC).

The six-week programme, which was implementedby CUC's Community Involvement Team three years ago, is designedto provide high school students with an opportunity to gain invaluableexperience in the electric industry.

Participants are acquiring vocational skillsin the following fields: mechanical, electrical, line and facilitiesmaintenance, plant operations, welding, auto mechanics, materialsmanagement and customer service. In addition to on-the-job workexperience, the trainees will participate in safety and fire preventiontraining and classroom training that include basic theoreticalknowledge on diesel engine operations and CUC's transmission anddistribution system.

Edris Ocho, CUC's Training & SafetyOfficer commented on the concept of implementing technical andvocational training for high school students, "We hope thatby exposing these students to the reality of work, they will seethe importance of linking skill development to academics in orderto achieve success in the vocational field."

CUC and its strategic alliance partners,MAN B&W Diesel AG of Germany, ABB Power T&D Company Inc.and R.W. Beck Inc., both of the USA, are the sponsors of the Programme.
