The Crime Prevention Department of the RCIPis reminding the public to be aware of property security and haveissued the following advice.
Some burglaries can be prevented as mostare committed by opportunist thieves who look for an easy opportunityto break into premises. Reducing these opportunities reduces thechances of a property being broken into.
Basic crime prevention such as securingdoors and windows with appropriate locks are a good deterrent,as is security lighting, but there is host of other crime preventionmatters to be considered. Valuables, such as jewellery, shouldbe properly secured inside the home, as should firearms, whichare required to be locked in an appropriate cabinet.
