YoungCaymanians for Conference

Faith Gealey,Deirdre Garcia and Maggie Ebanks are headed to Washington.
Three young Caymanians are joining otheroutstanding teenagers from around the world to discuss internationalissues such as communications, law, human rights and peace atmonthend.
The three, John Gray High School teachers'aide, Faith Gealey; and students, Deidre Garcia and Maggie Ebanks,will travel to Washington D.C., Philadelphia and New York at theend of July to attend the United Nations Global Young LeadersConference (GYLC).
Participants will meet top business leaders,policy officials, lobbyists, journalists, diplomats and academics.In addition to seminars they are scheduled to visit several embassiesin Washington, and tour historical landmarks in each city.
The young people will also take part ina simulated global summit, and a mock international crisis.
The conference is organised by the CongessionalYouth Leadership Council. It is divided into four identical sessionswhich take place throughout the summer. An estimated 1400 studentsfrom 75 countries will join the Caymanian delegates.
"The list of speakers for the previousevent was impressive. I believe it will be very interesting tohear the presenters this year. I am looking forward to talkingwith them and asking questions about their topics, Maggie Ebankssays.
The girls are currently busy keeping upwith world affairs as part of their preparations for the trip.
A cross-section of public and private organisationscontributed to help students meet the costs of travel and participation.
These included the Ministry of CommunityAffairs, the Ministry of Education, Montpelier Properties, AmericanAirlines, the law firms of W.S. Walker, Hunter and Hunter, Maplesand Calder, the accounting firm of Deloitte and Touche, RoyalBank and the Leos' Service Club.
