Cayman'sBrightest Students tour Cayman Net News

A group of 25 top performing pupils accompaniedby an assistant and three teachers from primary schools acrossthe Cayman Islands toured the offices of Cayman Net News on Friday,20 July, as part of their Summer School Newspaper in Educationproject.
The eight to 11 year-olds, who are alsopart of the Cognitive Accelerated Programme which puts brightchildren on a fast learning track, were eager to learn how newspapersare put together, where editors get information from and how picturesare printed.
Accompanied by Mrs. Jasmine Manoosingh,Ms Willene Hill and Ms Gloria Pollard, they were given a briefguide into the production process from the gathering of a report,to typing, to page layout, to printing.
Cayman Net News' staff were kept on theirtoes answering questions from the pupils about their own interestin publishing and the development of the Cayman Net News. Theyalso wanted to know how they could get more newspapers in theirschools regularly
They had earlier visited the Cayman IslandsWeather Station and were shown the weather gauges and balloon,satellite pictures and other instruments used to map weather patternsnear to the Islands.
Two of the pupils, Erica Powell and JordanEbanks explained that they found the Weather Station very interestingand expressed some surprise that the weather balloon was madefrom such thin material. Jordan said he thought it would havebeen made from thicker plastic.
They were also scheduled to visit the BotanicalGardens as part of their summer programme.
