Caymanians turn in noteworthyperformances

Several Track and Field athletesfrom Grand Cayman turned in noteworthy performances this pastweekend at the Russell E. Blunt/ East Coast Invitational Meetin North Carolina, USA.
The action took place in the impressivefacility at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.
Among the competitors were some of the topage group athletes from the United States and other countries.Participating from sixteen states as well as Mexico, Bermuda,the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Antiguavied for awards in a full range of events.
All the entrants from Cayman returned homewith medals or plaques for high-placed finishes in a variety ofevents.

Youngsters divinginto the pool under the watchful eye of coach Rowdy Gaines asthey prepare for an international swim meet next month.
All participants were required to have attainedqualifying standards predetermined by the meet organizers.
Perry Anglin impressed coaches and officialsas he blew away the opposition in the youth boys high jump. Althoughthe youngest of the 12 entrants, Perry was picture-perfect ashe cleared every height on his first attempt, until all othercompetitors wee eliminated. Perry was the only athlete to clearthe winning mark at 5'5".
Opal Bodden gained the silver medal in herfirst-ever triple jump competition with a distance of 32'9",only a few inches short of winning performance. She also finishedsecond in her heat of youth girl's 400 meters with a time of 1:02.34 and participating in the 800 meter run.
Also in the youth girls division, JoannaPhilips nailed down the sixth spot in the long jump with a personalbest leap of 15' 9 1/4", and cleared 4' 8" in the highjump.
Michael Letterlough put a silver medal performancein the young men's discus throw, hurling the platter for a personalbest at 147'9".
David Esdaile took the fifth-place awardin the intermediate boys 1500 meter run with his 4:27 effort,and was also clocked unofficially at 2:11 over 800 meters.
