What if ...A Satirical Look at Cable and Wireless

Dear Sir

What if ... Cable & Wireless were agas station and you drove in bought nothing and as you tried toleave they charged you for one gallon of gas. Try calling overseas,if ... no one answers the phone you still get billed for one minute.

What if ... Cable & Wireless were agas station and you bought 51/2 gallons of gas from them but youwere charged for a full six gallons. I say that because if youuse your cell phone for five minutes and one second, you are chargedfor six minutes. Most people would not shop at that station, Iwould personally call the police to have them arrested for theftand fraud.

What if ... the police arrived and beganto question the manager of that Cable & Wireless gas station,he would say that his pumps were not able to measure in 1/2 gallonstherefore he must charge for a full extra gallon. This is whatcable wireless says; their equipment is not able to time yourcall in seconds therefore you are billed for a full extra minute. The police would by this time have arrested the manager of thegas station and closed it until the equipment was changed to measurein the correct units.

What if ... the owners of that gas stationthen built a roadblock to other stations so that no one on theisland could get their gas from anywhere else surely the Governmentvehicles would clear the roadblock and allow everyone access toany gas station they wished to use. Well, Cable & Wirelesshas blocked access not only to certain internet sites which allowcheaper international calls over the internet they have also blockedcalls to call back numbers.

What if ... Cable and Wireless gas stationsold you bad gas and decided to refund your money, would you believethem? Well, Cable & Wireless had problems with their e-mailservice and "decided" to refund a month's internet chargeswould that be believable? No! because it is completely out ofcharacter and also untrue.

The decision to refund the internet chargesdid not come from Cable & Wireless Cayman, as I suspectedthe initiative originated from the new Telecommunication Authorityrecently set up by the Government to oversee telecommunicationsin Cayman. No wonder the manager of that particular gas stationwas on every news program that his little blue and white truckcould get him to, pretending that out of the goodness of his generousbosom he is refunding a months internet. If it looks like horsemanure and it smells like it, it probably is. The above my friendsare examples of "best practice" Cable & Wirelessstyle.
