Students exposedto employment world

More than 100 students fromTriple C School, Faulkner Academy, St. Ignatius and Cayman Prep& High School recently received some exposure to the employmentworld.

The opportunity was facilitatedby The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce which conducted theannual careers awareness visits to corporate chamber member hostorganisations.

The students also exploredthe finance industry with visits to local and international banks,law and accounting firms, where they heard from recent Caymanianscholarship recipients as well as international professionals.

They encountered the manyopportunities available locally and globally in the hospitalityindustry by touring many of the resorts on Grand Cayman.

Additional hosts includedmedical facilities, construction and transportation firms.

To further assist the studentsin assessing their aptitude for a particular field or industry,the Chamber of Commerce also organised a Job Placement Programmefor the Cayman Prep and High School Students.

Students were placed forone week in Chamber member organisations including Eden Rock DivingLtd., First Baptist Christian School, Cayman Airways Ltd., GaryCallan International, Cayman Engineering & Surveying, KozailyDesigns Ltd., the Hyatt Regency Resort, Sheena Conolly Real Estate,Boxall's, Island Photo, Kirk Office Equipment Ltd., the NationalTrust, Kyle's Beauty Salon, and Aall Trust & Banking Co. Ltd.

Other organisations participatingincluded several Cayman Islands government departments, the CISailing Club, Cathy Church Photography and Island Air.

All firms provided a wealthof information for the high schoolers, while encouraging themto achieve their personal and professional goals and pursue highereducation and continuing professional development and training.

"The students are extremelyfortunate to have had such a great exposure to work in the fieldsof their choice for the Job Placement Programme," accordingto Chamber President, Mr. W. Burns Conolly. "We were successfulin matching the students according to their interests and wantto note the benevolence of the participating organisations inthis Programme."
