Class of 1977Celebrates Silver Anniversary

The CaymanBrac High School Class of 1977 at their 25th Reunion Banquet atthe Brac Reef Hotel.

On July 2, 1977, Cayman Brac High Schoolheld its second graduation ceremony. Four weeks ago, on the weekendof July 5th, CBHS' Class of 1977 celebrated their thirty-fifthyear reunion.

The reunion weekend kicked-off on Fridaynight, July 5th, as members of the class met at Brac Reef Hotelfor registration and orientation. Early the next morning theygathered at "Conway's Turn", in the district of SpotBay, for a Memorial Walk, which ended at the Spot Bay Cemetery.There, they laid wreaths on the graves of two classmates - HalDrummond and Elroy Scott.

Hal, one of the Brac's star athletes, diedtragically in May 1977 before he could graduate. Since both heand Elroy were involved in sports, the class felt that a walkwould be the appropriate way to remember them.

Following the walk, the group boarded aprimary school bus and drove to Aunt Sha's Kitchen for breakfast.After breakfast, the group made a very important stop at FaithHospital. There, on behalf of The Lions of Tropical Gardens andthe Class of 1977, they donated two glaucometers to assist thehospital's ongoing Diabetes Program. After leaving the hospitalthe class journeyed on to the Kirkconnell Community Care Centerto visit the residents and staff there.

At 7:00 p.m., classmates, spouses, formerteachers and staff and parents gathered at the Governor's Roomof the Brac Reef Hotel to celebrate the Silver Anniversary. Classmatesin attendance were Paul Thompson, Craig McCoy, Stuart Conolly,Raymond Scott, Roger Scott, Norbert Scott, Elsie Ebanks- Sevik,Maureen Conolly, Karen Scott- Smith, Chollette Scott- Reyes, MerilynGrizzell- McLean, Francine Scott- Silva, Juliana O'Connor-Conolly,Elizabeth Tibbetts- Watt, Janice Tibbetts- McLean, Paulette Conolly-Taylor and Sharlene Brown. Former teachers were Chief SecretaryJames Ryan and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health,and District Administrator Andrea Bryan.

Madame Master of Ceremonies for the eveningwas Paulette Conolly Taylor. Paul Thompson gave the welcome note.Tributes to the Parents and Teachers were given by Sharlene Brown,who also gave the vote of thanks. A raffle was held and guestswere able to win several prizes that had been donated to the class.A monetary donation and plaque were given to Cayman Brac HighSchool to be used in the Hydroponics Program at the school.

Songs that were popular during school daysplayed in the background as classmates reminisced about theirschool days and how past experiences shaped their choices of careerstoday. Several items of memorabilia were on display includingphotos, schoolbooks, exam papers, rough drafts of essays, graduationprograms and two of the dresses worn at the Graduation Ceremony.The celebration continued after dinner as classmates gatheredin the patio for a disco style party.

On Sunday morning, a special church servicewas held in honour of the class at the Watering Place HolinessChurch. Former teacher Levonne Ryan and Pastor Davelee Tibbettsand classmate Hon. Julianna O'Connor-Conolly conducted this service.The congregation sang the hymn Saviour Like A Shepherd, Lead Us,which was also sung at the class graduation in 1977. In his message,Pastor Tibbetts congratulated the class on their achievementsand exhorted them to continue to set an example for the youthof the Brac and the Cayman community as a whole. The service endedwith a special prayer for the class and after a final lunch theweekend activities came to a close.

Class members and guests were all in agreementthat a wonderful time was had by all.
