Government'sIdeas Lauded

Dear Sir

I would like to publicly support the leaderof Government Business, together with the entire Government, forthe many innovative ideas they are considering, and which wouldcertainly assist in bringing back the economy of the Island.

The Inland Harbour at East End is a mostbrilliant idea, and I do hope that it will be brought to fruitionat the earliest possible date.

The proposed highway from East End to WestBay is so badly needed and I am sure the whole island will supportthis.

The proposed expansion of the airport runwayand the terminal building is many years overdue. I should mentionthat, by way of letter, I suggested this to one of the governmentsabout 15 years ago.

The additional cruise ship landing in GeorgeTown is desperately needed and hopefully it will start soon. AndI would commend them on planning to commence cargo operationsat night in the not too distant future.

This would alleviate the heavy cargo trafficon cruise ship days, which is overly dangerous, to say the least.

A recent statement was made in the newspaperby the Honorable Minister with reference to reducing bureaucracyand red tape in various government departments. This action isto be strongly commended.

The decision to allow up to six cruise shipsto enter our port on the same day is another smart decision.

I would like to remind the public that thefinancial centre has been under attack for some time and thatwe should do whatever is in our power to nurture tourism, whetherby sea or by plane.

Many locations such as Key West, Cozumeland many other islands in the Caribbean are competing for thesame dollar in a very strenuous and professional way, and if weare not prepared to compete we will find ourselves in the background.

Our economy is not like it was just a fewyears ago. We all have to realize that we are living in a rapidlychanging world and we are going to be called upon to make changesthat we never ever thought of before. If we are not prepared tomake these changes, we will be left standing alone.

Norberg K. Thompson
