Rotary Clubof Grand Cayman Donation To Prison

As part of its continuing commitment tosupport the vocational programmes offered within HM Prison atNorthward, the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman last week presenteda $1000 donation to Prison Director John Forster during the Club'sweekly luncheon meeting.
In making the presentation Club PresidentNick Freeland noted, "Rehabilitation cannot be effectivewithout appropriate educational and vocational training programs.These programs range from basic literacy and numeracy educationalprograms to vocational training for trades such as plumbing, automechanics and carpentry." The Rotary Club of Grand Caymanhas supported various educational programs at Northward Prisonincluding a reading aides program, mentoring and assistance withjob placement for first offenders.
Club President Nick went on to say, "Witha continuing increase in the number of young offenders in Northwardit was recognised that more effort needed to be directed to youthvocational training programs. Our CI$1000 donation will be usedto assist with the purchase of tools and supplies that are ofcritical importance to the running of programs for young offenders."
In accepting the donation, Prison DirectorJohn Forster thanked Rotary for the continuing support providedby the Grand Cayman Club and its members. "Although the prisonhas its own educational training officers, many of the programsare run by volunteers including members of the Rotary Club andwe are immensely grateful for the voluntary time expended by Rotariansin our reading, mentoring and computer training programs,"Mr. Forster acknowledged. " Our current plans are to provideelectrical, plumbing and tailoring workshops at Northward andthese will offer proper and supervised facilities for our vocationalprograms.
Rotary's financial assistance to providethe basic tools is invaluable and greatly appreciated."
