Visual ArtsClasses to commence at CCCI

The Community College of the Cayman Islandsin collaboration with the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands,will be offering three classes in visual arts starting in September2002.

Photography, Printmaking and a FoundationsCourse in Drawing will be offered to students and the public asprofessional level classes during the day and evening sessions.These courses will initially be offered as certificate classesand will eventually become accredited courses.

Two photography classes, taught by Caymanianphotographer Patrick Broderick, will be offered as both day andevening classes on Thursdays. The first semester will cover camera,lens, film, exposure, developing the negative, printing, lighting,special techniques, and seeing like a camera.

The printmaking class will focus on reliefprintmaking. Instructor Sarah Sessions will cover familiarisationwith materials, ink and watercolour monoprints, lino prints andwill introduce students to registration techniques. This coursewill be offered only on Tuesday evenings.

The foundation course in drawing offeredon Mondays (afternoon and evening) and taught by Vicki Tarrant,will concentrate on drawing and painting. During this course studentswill acquire the skills, knowledge and experience of buildinga strong art portfolio.

Research and seminars on the history ofpainting along with focus on project work will be combined withlife drawing and mixed media.

It is hoped that by the second semester,courses will be offered in advanced studies within these areasalong with the addition of new subject matter.
