Wall of Honourfor 500 Caymanians

500 Caymanians from allwalks of life who contributed to the development of the CaymanIslands, will be recognised on a Wall of Honour, due to be unveiledin Heroes Park on January 27 2003 ­ National Heroes Day.

The Quincentennial CelebrationsOffice is presently seeking nominations for people whose nameswill be placed on the wall.

Ezzard Miller, Chair ofthe National Quincentennial Committee, said that in keeping withthe quarterly themes for next year, they will start the Quincentennialby "celebrating our people".

He said: "The Wallof Honour will allow us to pay tribute to the builders of ourcommunity and at the same time create a sense of pride in whowe are as a nation."

Quincentennial DistrictCommittees have been established to organise district events in2003. One of their main responsibilities will be to choose, fromall the nominations submitted by residents of their district,who they consider to be the builders of their community: "TheQuincentennial District Committees have been given the task ofchoosing the names that will be placed on the Wall of Honour.The names they submit will be the names that appear on the Wallof Honour, making this truly a community decision", explainedQCO Executive Director Angela Martins.

The number of names allottedto each district has been determined based on electoral districts.

The breakdown is as follows:George Town ­ 150, West Bay ­ 150, North Side ­ 35,East End ­ 35, Bodden Town ­ 90, Cayman Brac and LittleCayman ­ 40.

When making nominationsmembers of the public should take into account the following criteria:

· Individuals whodemonstrate qualities of being selfless, honest and the Caymanianhard work ethic; Individuals who have given much of their timeand attention to the works of the Church in these islands, therebyhelping others;

· Individuals whosecommitment to the national cause of development brought them withinthe political arena and whose record shows the achievement ofmajor milestones in the islands' development;

· Individuals doingwhat they love, i.e., using their talent in ways which benefitedthe islands significantly;

· Individuals whoagainst difficult odds carried out tasks in support of the qualityof life in their particular district.
Nomination forms will be placed in all post boxes in the CaymanIslands over the coming weeks and are also available from

District Committee members,Government Administration Building, District Admin in Cayman Brac,the Quincentennial Celebrations Office and the download page ofthe QCO website located at www.cayman500.ky. Nominations shouldbe

submitted to the QuincentennialCelebrations Office by 5pm, Monday September 23rd 2002 in orderto be considered by the appropriate District Committee.
