Despite the difficulties, Perry Anglin of the Phoenix AthleticClub turned in some oustanding efforts. Competing in the 11-12year old age group, Perry almost pulled off a long jump/high jumpdouble. His 16'1 horizontal leap was a scant 2.5 inches off themark posted by the Bahamian winner, and was good for the silvermedal. However, in the high jump, Perry would not be denied, andhis clearance at 5'0 left all his opponents in his wake. Perryalso missed qualifying for the semifinals of the 100 meters bya mere 1/100th of a second.

She also won her trials heat in the 100 meters, andwas only 1/10 of a second away from the semifinal qualifying mark.
