First BaptistYouth Mission Trip to Mexico
In July 2002, a team of13 young people and youth leaders from First Baptist Church willbe traveling to Mexico City, Mexico for two weeks. But insteadof joining the hundreds of vacationers in the tourist district, these young people will be rolling up their sleeves and acquaintingthemselves with the locals in the more rural areas. They are allgoing with one purpose in mind to help others.
"If last year's expeditionto Costa Rica is an indication of what this year's trip will belike, these young people are in for an eye-opening, life-changingexperience" says Youth Director Christina McTaggart.
"The old adage "Itis better to give than to receive" truly comes to life intrips of this nature in that while the visiting team has everyintention of changing their world by helping others, it is thesevery same young people that come back with a new perspective onlife and a new sensitivity for the needs of others," sheadds.
As the trip will cost eachparticipant over CI$1000, the team has been working hard at raisingfunds with car washes, spaghetti lunches and flea markets. Thefinal fundraiser prior to the trip will be the June MoonlightCarnival to be held at First Baptist Church on June 21st and 22ndfrom 7:00 1:00 p.m.
The Youth Department wouldlike to express their sincere thanks to the following businessesand individuals who have supported this worthwhile trip: CarolKessinger, Mike and Bobbi Flowers, William and Deborah Ryan, DavidBodden, Foster's Food Fair, Kirk Supermarket, Party Mart, FirstBaptist Christian School PTF, and The Young Caymanian.
