The People for Referendum (PFR) will be holding a presentationparade at noon 12:00 noon on Tuesday, 18th June 2002. The paradewill begin behind the Public Library with the procession to goon to the Glass House.
The Leader of Government Business and theUnited Democratic Party (UDP) - The Hon. McKeeva Bush has beenput on notice that the People for Referendum will be presentingthe obtained signatures to him at the end of the parade.
According to the organizers, "Thusfar the PFR group has collected some 5,000-plus signatures inthe space of a week".
The group has decided that even after theinitial presentation of signatures they will continue the processof collecting petitions and signatures. Sandra Catron, a foundingmember of the group noted, "we realize that the time constraintsplace on us were very restrictive.
We have been put in a position where wewere forced to have the deadline before the debate would begin. However, we do recognize that many people have not been reachedand would like to sign the petition." Mrs. Catron furtherexplained that a known hurdle that they have had to cross is processof educating the people. "I am still surprised at even aftera huge PR campaign many people have no idea what a referendumis or even that the petition has been circulated. That is whythis group has also taken the position that there is no need torush the constitutional process.
People need time."
She said that all individuals are invitedto come out and attend the parade. Local companies have been askedto allow their staff to use the time participating in the paradeas their lunch break. It is expected that the parade will takeabout one hour. There will be live musical performances and speeches.
