Double surgery performed Wednesday, 19 June,on Matthew Thompson went extremely well, according to his doctors.
A team of doctors performed surgery on hisjaw and a tracheotomy, while a second team cleaned his head wound.
The neurosurgeon who led the second teamreported that the wound was in better condition than expected.Once Matthew recovers from the surgeries, doctors will begin thenext stage of treatment, including the administration of brain-stimulatingdrugs.
Matthew, 17, was injured in a motor vehicleaccident on Sunday, 2 June and taken by air ambulance to JacksonMemorial Hospital in Miami. Although he remains in critical conditionin a comatose state, his vital signs are increasingly stable eachday.
Matthew's mother, Ms Pat Ebanks, notes thatthe neurosurgeon still expects at least two weeks to pass beforea more definitive long-term prognosis is possible. She says sheis strengthened by the prayers for Matthew and her during thisvery trying time, and asks that people continue to earnestly offerpetitions on their behalf.
