Newcomer Snags Big Money inTournament

Nearly $9,000 in prize money was awardedto nine winners at the conclusion of the Brac Jackpot Tournamentheld recently in Cayman waters. Winners received their due atDivi Tiara, on Sunday, 2 June, where 70 people attended the prizegivingceremony -- the largest crowd ever, event coordinators said. Fromthere, newcomer and overseas angler, Jody Pilcher, walked with$4,000 for catching the heaviest dolphin.

Event coordinators said of the three-dayevent, "fishing was quite excellent," as anglers reeledin 36 dolphins, 11 wahoos, six yellowfin tunas and released threeblue marlins. A minimum qualifying weight of 15 pounds appliedto wahoos and dolphins. The qualifying weight was set at 20 poundsfor yellowfin tuna. Qualifying weights are set to encourage anglersto limit catches to more mature fish, organizers said. ShellyWard caught the heaviest fish among lady anglers, Justin Ebankscaught the heaviest fish among the junior anglers and Urs Billiterwas awarded the "Environmental Award" for pulling inthe most ocean debris.
