Youngblood Productions, a local promotionsand special events company, in conjunction with the Ministry ofTourism and the Almond Tree House, has unveiled plans to providean outlet for native arts and crafts in a typical island beachsetting.
Beginning this July 1, 2002, the CaymanCraft Market will showcase the best of Cayman's arts and craftsat the old Almond Tree restaurant. The thatch-roof and surroundingcourtyard with tall breadfruit trees, almond trees and plantsindigenous to the Cayman Islands makes this venue a perfect location.The grand opening will take place on July 1, at 10am and specialguests include the Minister for Tourism, the Hon. McKeeva Bush;Miss Cayman, Shannon McLean; and Mr. John Gunter, the founderand operator of the original George Town craft market on CardinalAvenue.
On hand will be various displays of localarts, crafts, thatch demonstrations and jewellery all excellentsouvenir options. Guests will also be able to enjoy visual artistsat work sketching portraits, landscapes and abstracts.
Specialty stalls offering hair braiding,fresh coconut water and local fruits ensure that there will besomething for everyone. The Cayman Craft Market will also featurethe best in live musical entertainment with local bands such asHi-Tide and Local Motion performing on a rotating basis. Visitorscan purchase snacks and refreshments at the Treehouse.

The Cayman Craft Market will be open dailyMonday through Thursday 10am-2pm and on Fridays, Saturdays, andSundays of scheduled cruise ship calls. Admission is free.
