The Cayman Islands Triathlon Association(CITA) and the National triathlon training squad welcomed nationalcoach Graham Park on his return to the Cayman Islands recently.
Coach Graham returned to Grand Cayman to train and peak the squadfor two important events The Island Games, Isle of Man,U.K. from 13 to 17 July '01 and The ITU Triathlon World Championship,Edmonton, Canada - 21 to 22 July '01. (Teams have been selectedfor both of these events and will be announced in the near future).
Coach Graham, who is the New Zealand National Triathlon Team Managerand arguably the best triathlon coach in the world, will trainthe squad twice a day, six days a week in the three disciplinesof triathlon - swimming, cycling and running.
Using a structured training plan the squad will build on the basefitness that had been developed over the previous twelve weeksby adding more intense workouts designed to develop the strengthand speed required in competition.
A crucial part of this strength and speed phase is a trip to CaymanBrac where the squad will train on and around the 140 ft highbluff. "The Brac offers the opportunity for hill trainingin biking and running and provides terrain similar to the WorldChampionship course in Edmonton," said coach Graham. "Thetrip away will also be good for the squad as it will allow themto train together in a different environment in preparation foroverseas competition".
The CITA and the training squad would like to thank the following, for their assistance in organizing this trip: Cayman Airways Ltd.,Mr. Moses Kirkconnell & Carib Sands Beach Resort.
The squad went to the Brac on Friday 15 June and left on Tuesday18 June.
