CUC Games in full swing

Despite getting off to late start on Tuesday(13 March), the CUC National Age Group Championships and CARIFTATrials at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex was a highly competitiveand entertaining meet, according to organisers.

The event attracted some 200 athletes vying for a spot on theCARIFTA team and CAC Championship, which are set for 13-16 Apriland July respectively.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ibeh, secretary of the Cayman Islands AthleticAssociation explained the late start: "We had quite a numberof late registrations which caused the delay. However, we arequite pleased with the results that we have seen so far."

National Athletic Coach, Kenrick Williams could not have agreedmore. He expressed delight at the turn out, as well as the results.

"The meet itself was a huge success. We had over 200 juniorcompetitors and the return of three of our overseas athletes,who are on spring break, added international flavour to the races,"he said.

Coach Williams said that junior male and female athletes had somestellar and noted that Orantis Rankin and Nicholas Washingtonappear ready for their outdoor campaign.
"Rankin stopped the clock at 11 seconds flat in the 100-metreevent, and Washington (400-metre) and Ronald Forbes, who ran apersonal best (59.1) in the 400-metre hurdles, had inspiring performances,"he added.

He also noted that Chester Hurlston threw a personal best in thediscus with a distance of 124' 4".

CUC National Age Group Championships and CARIFTA Trials continuesthis evening (Thursday, 15 March) at the Truman Bodden SportsComplex.
The CIAAA has planned a race with current ExCo members.
