Batabano (Cayman) Limited, will host itsannual Batabano Carnival, on Saturday, 28 April, beginning atthe Thomas Russell Way at 12:00 p.m.

The event is being organised in conjunctionwith the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman.

According to the organisers, this year'sCarnival will be "bigger and better" and promises tobe an exhilarating experience for the entire family, with its"new and exciting" theme to fit the new millennium.

"Months of preparation go into thisone-day event. Participants and sponsors must be identified, theroute and entertainment organised, costumes designed, judges chosenand the parade choreographed. It takes an enormous community effortto put on Batabano Carnival," said this year's chairperson,Ms. Donna Myrie.

This year's show is separated in two categories- a junior and an adult carnival. Organisers say, the junior carnivalaims to increase participation of the younger folks.

The event will commence at the Pageant Beachat 12:00 pm, featuring Cayman's finest Junior Mas Bands from anumber of local schools and organisations. They will for cashprizes and trophies for Best Junior Band, Best School Band, BestJunior King and Queen as well as Junior Spirit of Batabano.

Adult revelers will grace the streets beginningat the Royal Palms parking lot at 3:00 p.m. They will parade upWest Bay Road, ending up on Harbour Drive where the winners willbe announced. This parade will feature a number of Mas Bands depictingdifferent aspects of Cayman's cultural, social and political scenes.
