Caymanian Bar hasfirst woman president

Mrs. Theresa Lewis-Pitcairn is the new Presidentof the of the Caymanian Bar Association (CBA), being elected atthe association's last General Meeting held on the 8 March.

She became the fifth president to lead the CBA which was formedapproximately 15 years ago, to address issues and concerns ofCaymanian Attorneys. Mr. Brian Hunter will serve as vice-president.

The late Ormon Panton became the first President of the CBA followedby Mr. A. Steve McField, then Mr. Orren Merren who made way forMr. Alden McLaughlin, now a sitting member of the LegislativeAssembly.

According to past president, Mr. McField, some of the issues theCBA addresses include the role of the Cayman Law School; positionsof young Caymanian Lawyers in the country's growing legal profession;and to review and enlighten Caymanians about the legal processesthat affect them.

"Since it's formation, the CBA has reviewed and put out variouspress releases on Bills, Motions and Legislation," Mr. McFieldtold Cayman Net News.

This, he said, included a constitution drafted between 1992 and1993 for discussions and proposals and other views to review theImmigration Law, which was brought to the Legislative Assemblyby a Select Committee of the House.

"The CBA will continue to put forward proposals, recommendationson legal matters that affect the people of the Cayman Islands,"said Mr. McField.
