Attorneys Generalto Convene In Cayman

Her Majesty's Attorney General for Englandand Wales and the Attorneys General of the United Kingdom OverseasTerritories, as well as representatives from the US and CanadianDepartments of Justice, will attend the 10th Annual Conferenceof Attorneys General of the United Kingdom Overseas Territoriesnext week.
Held this year in the Cayman Islands, theconference will be held from 27-29 March at the Hyatt Regency.The host is Cayman's Attorney General, the Hon. Mr. David Ballantyne.Delegates also include Mr. John White, Head of the Overseas TerritoriesDepartment of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Ian Hendry,Deputy Legal Adviser, Overseas Territories Department and Ms SusanDickson, Regional Legal Adviser Overseas Territories Departmentbased at the British High Commission in Barbados.
The conference is an opportunity for AttorneysGeneral to discuss legal issues affecting the Overseas Territories,of particular interest to Attorneys General. Among the topicsare constitutional and human rights issues, financial initiativesand international co-operation, and regional developments in thelegal sector.
Delegates will be welcomed by Cayman's AttorneyGeneral at the Opening Ceremony on 27 March when His Excellencythe Governor will open the conference followed by welcoming remarksby the Leader of Government Business and an address by Lord Williams,as Chairman of the conference.
The Rt. Hon. The Lord Williams of Mostyn,QC was appointed as the Attorney General of England and Walesin 1999. He was the Minister of State at the Home Office until1998, and has been the Deputy Leader of the House of Lords since1998.
