Women's FootballBegins Saturday

Scholars' Internationalwomen's football team, 2000 league champions.

Opening ceremonies on Saturday at 4 p.m. will signal the startof the Cayman Islands Football Association women's season at EdBush Sports Complex in West Bay.

The league will feature four teams: ScholarsInternational, the current league champion; George Town SportsClub, the FA Cup champion; Future FC and Naya.

"Four of the teams are very competitiveand I believe the Future team will do well. George Town has alwaysbeen a challenge, so has Naya," Greg Ebanks, the coach forScholars' women team said.

"There has been a lot of pre-leaguetraining. The women are looking forward to the start of the season," he added.

"I am disappointed that more younggirls don't want to compete. We were told there would be six teams,now I am being told that there are four teams. What I want forthis season is to see more sportsmanship displayed on the field,"said Cherry Whittaker, the coach for George Town Sports Complex.

Of-course Scholars will be the team to beatas they have dominated the league for the past three years. GeorgeTown on the other hand has captured the FA Cup for the past threeyears.

Immediately following the opening ceremonies,the league will kick off with a Future vs. Naya match. Then onSunday at 7 p.m. Scholars will face George Town SC in Ed BushSports Complex. Admission is free.
