Primary SchoolStudents Tour Cable & Wireless
George Town Primary School toured officesat Cable & Wireless recently.
Grade six students had an opportunity tolearn what happens to a call from the time numbers are dialedon one phone to the point when the receiver answers the call asthe students viewed the switching equipment at Cable & Wireless,Eastern Avenue.
Teachers and students thanked SwitchingTechnician Lewie Hydes for the tour. Mr. Horace Parker, a teacherat George Town Primary School, said, "I am sure the studentsall learned a lot from this field trip to Cable & Wireless.Currently we are working on a social studies unit on communicationsand telecommunications in the Cayman Islands and having this tourhas enlightened the children into what telecommunications is allabout.
Corporate Communications Manager AndreaFa'amoe said, "We at Cable & Wireless hope that the fieldtrip encouraged students to whet their appetites in the sciencesand engineering while they are in school. Upon completion of schoolinterested students may contact us in pursuit of jobs."
Many other schools have toured Cable &Wireless over the years and another school has requested a similartour in the near future.
