Eight young men in the George Town Scout troop were promoted to the ranks of patrol leader and assistant patrol leader during an installation ceremony recently.
Earning double stripes (patrol leader) were Carlos Frederick, Odel Downer, Paul Chin and Sean Cohen. Earning single stripes as assistant leaders were Anthony Ebanks, Dushane Bartley, Lloyd Conolly and Paul Palmer. Several of the boys' parents were on hand to pin on the badges, under the watchful eye of Executive Commissioner, Winston Hayle. These scouts join Senior Patrol Leader, Brian Seales in giving direction to the troop of 43 young men.
Some 12 boys in the troop also received proficiency badges during the ceremony. These were awarded for activities and skills ranging from hiking, pioneering and cooking, to sports, entertainment and information technology.
The George Town troop meets Mondays, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and welcomes new recruits, aged 11 though 20. Adult volunteers are also welcome. Persons interested in this or any other troop should call the Scouts office, at 949-1515.
