East End Community Activities

Fueled by one of the largest industries on the island - QuarryProducts, together with the presence of the Morritts Tortuga Club'stimeshare development - the district of East End is shaping upto be the next area of focus by investors and other entrepreneurswho have missed the economic boom along Seven Mile Beach.
At one time, it seemed as if the District of West Bay, would havebeen the area to accommodate the expansion of the territory'sindustrial and tourism growth. This may not be the case anymore, with announcement a few weeks ago that Morritt's will be buildinganother 150-unit Timeshare Resort, and the news that a 'suburban'airfield is now becoming a reality. Therefore, it is a naturalfor the Eastern Districts to get the attention of some of the'new money' coming to Cayman.
In the area of activities for the residents for East End, theQuarry Products operators, continue to sponsor community eventsfor the residents of the area. Morritt's also put on a bash forthe people of the district, on the Saturday prior to Easter
Earlier this month, some 31 kids went outside of East End andbecame 'tourists' - by visiting one of Grand Cayman's most popularwonders in the middle of the sea - the Sand Bar. The trip's organizerswere The East End Boys and Girls Club, which headed up by DonovanConnor as Youth Director.
"All the officers of our Club are really grateful for thesupport of Mr. Dick Christianssen of Quarry Products for sponsoringthese outings", he said. The also intend in the future tomake educational trips to the Botanical Gardens and Pedro's Castle.
"Many of the kids felt that they wanted to do something differentfrom which they were accustomed to, like going away to a WaterPark as they see on TV. Mr. Dick, happened to be there when wewere talking about it, and he said 'Why would anyone want go awayto a waterpark when the world's greatest one is right here'. Hewas right ... and he agreed to cover the costs to get all thekids to get to the Sand Bar. They loved it."
Donovan, who is a driver of one of his father's buses which servesthe District of East End, continued: "When the mothers ofthese kids heard of the great outing they had - wished they couldhave gone along too. Mr. Dick solved this by throwing a huge Mother'sDay Party for them ... and arranged for flowers for the WomenPrisoners who are the East End Civic Centre."
"People are always talking about not being able to controlor spend more time with their children" says Donovan. "Youhave got to get involved with them, not only the parents and relatives, but the people who have come to visit and live among us. Herein East End, we are really grateful for Mr. Morritt and Mr. Dick. They are not only doing business here by offering work, but alsogetting more activity going to benefit us in East End. They haveshown that they care about us", he concluded.
