FormerPrisoner dead in alleged Machete attack by another ex-prisoner

Since the beginningof this year 2000 four persons have lost their lives violently- killed by others in what can only be described in the normallytranquil Cayman Islands as - a spate of murders.

What is quite incredible is also the fact that all of these killingshave involved five former inmates
- all recidivists - from Her Majesty's Prison at Northward.
- In mid-January, a popular Caymanian young man was brutally murderedduring a robbery by two young Caymanian former inmates, who hadbeen released from prison a few months earlier.
- A couple of weeks later, a woman from Jamaica working here wasbrutally stabbed to death by an estranged male Jamaican also hereon a work permit.
- Last week a 25-year old Caymanian -Jamie Wood, was shot in theback of the head and killed in cold blood by a former inmate whowas released last year.
- The latest killing of 41-year old Steve Earl Watler, took placelast Sunday at approximately 5:00 PM in the normally placid communityof Bodden Town. It is reported to have taken place following a"fight between two male persons" confirmed a policespokesperson. While reports indicated that weapons were involved,a police spokesperson said that there were no visible injuries.Later that evening, a family member of the deceased told CaymanNet News that the deceased did "received severe chops aroundhis neck".

Following a post-mortem, a police report has since confirmed thatthe "victim died as result of a blunt trauma injury to thehead" ... and "although a machete was used as a weaponit appears that he (the deceased) was struck with the blunt sideof the blade resulting in death".

The incident tookplace across the main street, from a heavy equipment compoundowned by another family member of the deceased

The person nowin custody following this alleged killing, is also a former inmatewho was released from Prison last year - and so was the victim.
