Cadian Ebanks declares forWest Bay
Building Contractor, Cadian Ebanks, of West Bay, has made thedecision to run for public office in the General Election of November2000.
In a prepared release, says that he can make a difference andis dedicated to making Cayman a better place for its people. Heis the President of the Society of Cayman Builders and Contractors,a member of the National Trust, the Planning Committee and Chamberof Commerce, the Merchants Association and is a devout Christian.
He emphasises that he is not running for the salary - in any casehe feels it is far too high for the hours spent on the job. Heis motivated in his belief that Caymanians need representation.... "not misrepresentation". "The country is now$300 million in debt and that the majority who voted for thispresent government in 1996 are regretting it" he suggests.
On the salaries paid to legislators, he compares the salary ofthe President of the United States, which is US$200,000 annually- "giving him a net of $160,000 because he pays 30 percentin taxes - compared to our own elected ExCo members who receiveUS$150,000", he says.
He refers to H. M. Northward Prison as a "recreation centre"with an annual cost of $25,000 per prisoner. "This moneywould be far better spent giving school children free meals"he claims. If elected he says he would work toward "changingmany of Cayman's laws"
A previous candidate in other elections, Cadian Ebanks, who wasborn in 1934, is married with a ten-year-old child.
